With energy & warmth, with humor & intelligence, Rabbi Jonathan Porath comes to Temple Adath Yeshurun from Jerusalem, where he has lived with his family for the past 27 years. He is an 18th generation rabbi,an inspiring speaker and educator who makes Jewish texts come alive. |
| Rabbi Porath was born and raised in the U.S. He received his BA from Brandeis University, MA from Columbia University and was ordained rabbi from the Jewish Theological Seminary of America. He founded the first Hillel in the Soviet Union. He was the western Russian director of the Joint Distribution Committee, where he commuted back and forth from Jerusalem to Russia more than 175 times and a member of the faculty of the Wexner Heritage Foundation. He first traveled to the Soviet Union in 1965 and has authored the very popular book, “Jews in Russia, the Last Four Centuries”. |
